F ormed under the patronage of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI), the Nigerian Business Council (NBC) has played an important role in promoting bi-lateral relations between Nigeri and Dubai.
Joining other 25 Business Councils representing their countries in Dubai and operating under the umbrella of DCCI, the NBC works closely with them through participation in seminars, workshops, conferences and similar activities. These are aimed at informing and educating the business community of the risk in parting with their money without proper investigation of the genuineness of whatever business proposal that maybe introduced to them, said Dr. Layo Adeniyi, the President of NBC in a ceremony held at DCCI.
Dr. Ahmed Abdulrahman Al Banna, Deputy Director-General of DCCI who chaired the session extended congratulations to the members of NBC while presenting the work permit to the new Business Council’s officials.
“Historically, Nigeria is a major trading partner of Dubai and the Nigerian business community is playing an outstanding part in the market,” he said. “The Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry supervises all activities of the foreign business councils aiming at creating networking forums amongst the local business community of Dubai and the business communities in the other parts of the world,” he added.
The Nigerian Business Council is an association of business people, and professionals, formed to promote trade between Nigeria and the international business community through the fast growing global city of Dubai.
“We are set to handle business and professional related inquiries between Nigeria and Dubai/UAE and maintain reference groups for various industries and professions. While we encourage, advise, and assist Nigerians and Nigerian companies willing to establish business in Dubai, we also encourage, guide, and assist businessmen in Dubai/UAE willing to establish business anywhere in Nigeria. In order to bring the business organisations and individuals in the two countries together, we facilitate business visit of Nigerian business men/women and members of Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, agriculture, Mines & Industries (NACCIMA) whose purpose of visit is considered to be of business value to Nigeria and Dubai/UAE,” said Dr. Adeniyi.
He assured working in line with the Federal Government of Nigeria to sanitize the absurd image created by Economic fraud stars sending unsolicited mails and faxes to unsuspecting business men for fraud transfer and money making magic. “In this direction, we seek the government support in the area of combating the influx of fraud stars into UAE, because of the negative image they portray on Nigeria,” he stated.
