Bollore Africa Logistics invests more than US$5 million in Tanzania’s growing logistics sector

A multinational logistics company plans additional investment in expanding and improving Inland Container Depots (ICDS) to help ease congestion at the Dar es Salaam port. Bollore Africa Logistics South and East Africa Director, Tony Stenning, said that in the past two years the company has invested over US$5 million in improving ICDs.

He noted that the potential for the port of Dar es Salaam to be a strong contender as a main gateway for cargo has placed Tanzania in good stead to provide a network for the importation and exportation of goods. “Being the second largest economy in East Africa, Tanzania has a great potential to develop especially through its projects related to natural resources and infrastructure and we are confident in its development and will continue to support it,” he said.

Many shipping and logistics companies are fast realising the importance of supporting the increase in trade that has developed not only in Tanzania but also with countries in the hinterland. “That’s why we have progressively opened offices at various borders with neighbouring countries such as Zambia, Malawi, Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda,” Tony Stenning noted.

In 2012, Tanzania has seen a significant growth in the economy at approximately six per cent. According to the World Bank, the country’s economy is expected to continue to expand at the rate of approximately 6.5 and 7.0 per cent in the next few years.
